  1. Sir Richard Steele (1672¬≠1729) was an English statesman and a 
  2. publisher of periodicals, the most renowned being The Spectator  
  3. (1711). He also contributed heavily to his journals and was a 
  4. playwright. His writing made him well-known in both literary and 
  5. political circles. In fact, his pamphlet The Crisis  got him temporarily 
  6. expelled from Parliament. His other journals included The Tatler,  
  7. TheGuardian  and The Englishman.
